THE FLOATING DRIFT™
Mitigating Conventional Drilling &
Tubular Drifting Operational Issues
The Floating Drift™ was developed to solve long standing industry wide issues encountered during rig operations.
The Floating Drift™ eliminates the possibility of problems with debris or ID restriction before the pipe is on bottom, thus eliminating costly trips out of hole to replace damaged tubulars or to remove debris.
CURRENT CHALLENGES
Conventional Methods
Stickline Gauge Cutter Runs: This is time consuming, carries the obvious risk with any intervention. Of course, in an unnecessary and unacceptable number of cases, it is too little too late, the excess pipe dope has caused a blockage, a foreign object dropped or in the worst case an over torqued connection requires the pipe to be pulled.
Drifting Pipe out of the Derrick: This method ensures the pipe is clear of debris but as it is pre make up there is no guarantee as to crimping the pipe and does not ensure that excess dope lost during make up will not lead to subsequent problems. There remains an obvious dropped object issue.
Drifting Pipe out of the V-Door: As with drifting pipe out of the derrick, the issues remain though it does somewhat mitigate dropped object issues.
WHY FLOATING DRIFT™?
Why Waste Time &
Take Unnecessary Risk?
Eliminating wireline runs saves time, money and intervention risk.
The floating drift™ detects problems at surface and corrective action can be taken immediately.
